Does Foundayo cause constipation?
Yes, and it is on the label rather than only in reports: constipation appears among the common adverse reactions in Foundayo's FDA prescribing information, published 2026-08-13. Listed means it was seen often enough in the trials to be printed, not that it happens to everyone. The same slowed gut transit that produces the fullness produces constipation at the other end. Eating much less compounds it: less food means less fiber and less fluid, and both are what keep things moving. It clusters in the days after each dose increase. Foundayo steps up on a published schedule that reaches the maintenance dose at week 9. Most people see a few rough days after each step and a settling in between, not one long stretch. Once you are at 5.5 mg, 9 mg, 14.5 mg or 17.2 mg daily and no longer stepping up, the trigger stops recurring. What helps first: fluid first. It is the most common deficit and the easiest to fix. It stops being ordinary at a specific line: no bowel movement for several days with abdominal pain, distension or vomiting. That combination needs assessment rather than another laxative.
How long does Foundayo constipation last?
One tablet a day. Each row is a step up, and the days after each one are when this tends to arrive.
| Weeks | Dose |
|---|---|
| Days 1–30 | 0.8 mg daily |
| Days 31–60 | 2.5 mg daily |
| Days 61–90 | 5.5 mg daily |
| Day 91 and on | 9 mg → 14.5 mg → 17.2 mg |
What helps with constipation on Foundayo?
- 1Fluid first. It is the most common deficit and the easiest to fix.
- 2Fiber added gradually rather than all at once, which otherwise trades constipation for bloating.
- 3Movement, which does more for gut transit than most supplements.
- 4Asking the prescriber about a stool softener or an osmotic laxative before reaching for a stimulant one.
A tablet rather than an injection, and the same class effects: the route changes, the stomach does not. In the two trials 8% stopped because of side effects, against 3% on placebo, 5% of them because of gastrointestinal ones. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea were more common during dose escalation and decreased over time. Above 5.5 mg every step is optional, taken on response and tolerability, so the pace is a conversation with the prescriber rather than a reason to quit unannounced.
When is constipation on Foundayo serious?
No bowel movement for several days with abdominal pain, distension or vomiting. That combination needs assessment rather than another laxative.
Separately, Foundayo carries a boxed warning. The label carries the GLP-1 class boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumors, and says why it applies here: GLP-1 receptor agonists that are pharmacologically active in rats and mice caused thyroid C-cell tumors at clinically relevant exposures. Orforglipron is not pharmacologically active in rats or mice and did not produce tumors in rodents; because it is active at the human GLP-1 receptor, the label says the human relevance of those rodent tumors has not been determined. It is contraindicated outright with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2.

Would switching drugs help?
Constipation is on 12 of the 13 FDA labels tracked here, so the other labels are worth reading before assuming a switch avoids it. What a switch does change is what you pay, and Foundayo is $299 a month at the maintenance dose here.
