GLP-1 hair loss: which labels actually list it
Everything written on this question answers the clinical half — shedding follows rapid weight loss from any cause, and it grows back. That is probably true and it is not what someone typing a brand name is asking. They are asking whether it is on that drug's label. This site stores all 13 of them, so the answer here is per drug, with the date on each label.
Do GLP-1s cause hair loss?
It is printed on 2 of the 13 labels: Wegovy and Zepbound. On the other 11 the words do not appear.
The split is not by molecule, which is the part nobody prints. Tirzepatide lists hair loss as Zepbound and does not list it as Mounjaro — the same molecule from the same maker, on labels published on the same day. A page telling you this drug causes hair loss and a page telling you it does not can both be quoting a current FDA label. They are quoting different ones.
What that does not settle is why, and the labels do not say. The obesity labels carry longer lists of common reactions in general, so part of this is a reporting threshold rather than a different effect — but nothing on the page distinguishes the two, so neither does this one.

Hair loss, answered from the labels
- Do GLP-1s cause hair loss?
- On 2 of the 13 FDA labels this site reads, hair loss is printed among the common adverse reactions: Wegovy and Zepbound. On the other 11 it is not there at all. That is a statement about what each label records, which is the only thing a label settles. It is not a statement that the other drugs never do it, and no label says that either.
- Does Ozempic cause hair loss?
- The Ozempic label does not list it — and that label, published 2026-08-19, is more recent than Wegovy's, published 2026-06-30, which does. Both are semaglutide, from the same maker. So a page telling you semaglutide causes hair loss and a page telling you it does not can both be quoting a current FDA label, and they are quoting different ones.
- Why would the same molecule be listed differently?
- The labels do not say, and this page will not invent a reason. What can be measured is that the obesity labels carry longer lists of common reactions in general — Wegovy lists 17, Zepbound lists 12, against Ozempic at 5 and Rybelsus at 6 and Wegovy pill at 10 and Mounjaro at 7. A longer list can come from a lower reporting threshold or a longer trial rather than a different drug effect, and nothing on the label distinguishes those.
- Is it permanent?
- No label here describes it as permanent, and none of them describes a course for it at all — the entry is a line in a table of common reactions, with no duration and no management. Anything you read about regrowth timelines is coming from the dermatology literature on shedding after rapid weight loss, not from these labels, and this site does not hold that literature and will not paraphrase it.
- Does a lower dose avoid it?
- Nothing on any of these labels ties hair loss to the dose. Where a reaction does track the schedule the labels usually say so — Wegovy's altered skin sensation is recorded as mostly at 7.2 mg, and hair loss carries no such note on either label that lists it.
