Saxenda (liraglutide) dosage schedule

One injection a day. The FDA label below escalates it on a schedule, and the maintenance dose is 3 mg daily, reached no earlier than week 5.

WhenDoseWhat the label says about it
Week 10.6 mg dailyInitiation.
Week 21.2 mg daily—
Week 31.8 mg daily—
Week 42.4 mg daily—
Week 5 and on3 mg dailyThe recommended dose. For adults the lower doses are for titration only: an adult who cannot tolerate 3 mg stops Saxenda. Children 12 and older who cannot tolerate 3 mg may drop to 2.4 mg, and stop if that is not tolerated either; their escalation can take up to 8 weeks.

Maximum dose: 3 mg daily. The label sets nothing above it.

Does the price change as the dose goes up?

Hone Health, the one seller halfrx records, charges $315 to $415 a month, and the price rises with the dose: $315 at the starting dose and $415 at maintenance. At $415 Saxenda costs more than Wegovy's $349 direct from NovoCare. The 30 daily injections a month change how often you inject, not the monthly price.

What happens if I miss a dose?

A single missed dose is skipped — take the next one at the usual time, and do not take an extra dose or a larger one to make up for it. If more than 3 days have passed since the last injection, the label says to restart at 0.6 mg and repeat the weekly escalation; the Medication Guide says to call the prescriber about how to restart.

Questions

How long does it take to reach the maintenance dose of Saxenda?
At the fastest the label allows, week 5. Each step has to be held for its full interval before the next one, and a step can be repeated if the current dose is not tolerated — so the real answer is usually longer than the chart, never shorter.

Every dose and interval on this page is from FDA prescribing information for Saxenda (liraglutide) , the version published 2026-06-15. Nothing here is a recommendation: the dose you take is the one your prescriber sets, and the schedule is often slowed deliberately for tolerability.
