Mounjaro (tirzepatide, diabetes label) dosage schedule

One injection a week. The FDA label below escalates it on a schedule, and the maintenance dose is 2.5 mg to 15 mg once weekly, set by blood sugar control.

WhenDoseWhat the label says about it
1–42.5 mgStarting dose.
5 and on2.5 mg → 15 mgRaised in 2.5 mg steps, each held at least 4 weeks, only if glycemic control needs it. The August 2026 label dropped the fixed move to 5 mg at week 5 and the line that 2.5 mg is not a glycemic-control dose.

Maximum dose: 15 mg once weekly (10 mg for children aged 10 and older). The label sets nothing above it.

Does the price change as the dose goes up?

The dose changes and the bill does not: LillyDirect charges $499 a month self-pay at every strength from 2.5 mg to 15 mg. Zepbound, the same molecule at the same doses, is priced by dose there instead: $299 at 2.5 mg, $399 at 5 mg, and $449 from 7.5 mg if each refill comes within 45 days. The label matters for insurance: Mounjaro is approved for type 2 diabetes, and a plan that excludes weight-loss drugs can still cover it for that.

halfrx records Mounjaro (tirzepatide, diabetes label) at $499/mo at the maintenance dose, verified 2026-09-21.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Same rule as Zepbound: within 4 days take it, past that skip it.

Questions

How long does it take to reach the maintenance dose of Mounjaro?
The label sets the interval between steps rather than a fixed date; the schedule above is the fastest route it permits.

Every dose and interval on this page is from FDA prescribing information for Mounjaro (tirzepatide, diabetes label) , the version published 2026-09-02. Nothing here is a recommendation: the dose you take is the one your prescriber sets, and the schedule is often slowed deliberately for tolerability.
